Mindfulness for You and Your Students

K-12 Teachers
SEL/Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the ability to pay attention, on purpose, non-judgmentally, in the present moment. Mindfulness is a powerful tool that supports children in calming themselves, focusing their attention, and interacting effectively with others, all critical skills for functioning well in school and in life. Incorporating mindfulness into education has been linked to improving academic and social and emotional learning. Also, mindfulness strengthens some underlying development processes, such as focus, resilience, and attention that will help students in the long run.

In this professional development session, teachers will learn the benefits of mindfulness for themselves and their students. They will gain an overview of the history of mindfulness, the neuroscience behind it, cognitive benefits, social- emotional skills, and well-being. In addition, participants will learn the fundamental role that social-emotional well-being plays in the attainment of academic outcomes. Teachers will walk away with six mindful practices that they can implement immediately in their classrooms. They will not only see the benefits for their students but also the benefits for themselves as educators and human beings.

Our Mindfulness Program for teachers and students is interactive, engaging, inspiring and most importantly practical and productive. We emphasize the understanding that mindfulness is a, “practice”, best implemented by starting with the teaching staff, as their experience with mindfulness will enhance their motivation to share its many benefits with their students. Our results have included improvement in student attention, academic growth, emotional regulation, compassion, empathy, optimism and resilience. We have also experienced a significant decrease in disciplinary referrals and HIB incidents. Professional staff learn the critical role that social-emotional well-being plays in ensuring a thriving and positive school learning environment.
